How to prevent shoes from deformation and damage in storage

While storing shoes for a long time, take care that they must not lose their shape, and stay safe from any damage. In worn shoes, the appearance of folds and creases is natural which causes permanent deformation. Humidity, gravity, and aridity affect the shoes in storage. Also, materials become stiff when they age and deteriorate. When you store shoes long term try these measures to keep them in shape:

  • In short term storage, only shoe tree insert is enough
  • Vintage shoes also stay long in storage without any filling or shaping
  • But in long term storage put them on wooden shoe horns or stretchers
  • Stuff sneakers with acid- free tissues that are more absorbent than newspaper and also prevent from foldings
  • To avoid dampness let the boots air-dry before inserting any shoe-frames
  • Pegs, hooks, and hangers are good options for sandals and heels
  • Long boots need more care to avoid creases. They can be hung upside down on old wine bottles.
  • Mold and mildew are enemies for organic materials. Choose a climate-controlled environment for shoes made of such materials.
  • Open front shelves and racks can be helpful in keeping shoes organized. Lightweight shoes are often made of fragile materials and can’t bear humidity. A package of silica gel added to their storage container can remove dampness.

Verdict

Whether you are storing your favorite footwear for a long or short period, shoes need care. You love them and have spent a lot. So you don’t like them to be spoiled. Hope this guide will help you a lot.
